OVERVIEW
The city of romance, with its elegant, lamp-lit bridges and iconic Eiffel Tower, is one of Europe’s most recognizable destinations. Paris is a treasure trove of art – for many of the most famous artists (Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso) have lived or worked there at some point in their lives – and a good place to see it is the Louvre or Musée d’Orsay.
Foodies are well catered for with ample bistros and boulangeries (bakeries) and fromageries (cheese shops) – and Paris has the second highest number of Michelin star restaurants in the world.
The city is home to many luxury fashion houses including Chanel and Christian Dior (so much so that it’s often nicknamed the capital of fashion), so fashionistas can shop to their heart’s content. Of course, vintage shops and flea markets are a highlight too. For hipster vibes, check out the Pigalle arrondissement; for art galleries and nightlife, Belleville-Menilmontant is the place.
