The brainchild of the CEO of luxury brands group LMVH, the Fondation Louis Vuitton is a cultural space and exhibition of contemporary art. The stunning futuristic glass building, which takes the form of a boat’s sails inflated by the wind (designed by Frank Gehry), sits on the edge of the Jardin d’Acclimation, a much-loved children’s park.
It was finished in 2014, and hosted the Louis Vuitton fashion show before opening to the public. It houses 11 separate galleries on four levels, plus an auditorium, and displays a collection of modern art belonging to the Foundation as well as Bernard Arnault’s personal collection.
There are several multilevel roof terraces and installations, so the views from the building are spectacular. Come 2062, the building will be handed over to the city of Paris.
