Smoothie Sundays: Almond and avocado smoothie

Start your day the way you mean to go on with this super-healthy, fiber-dense almond and avocado smoothie

This is a great way to start the day and, and the calorie and fiber-dense ingredients should keep you feeling pleasantly full until lunch time  – which may stop you diving into a café for a doughnut!

Avocados are high in fats, more than half of which are monounsaturated, which can help protect against heart disease and also to help lower blood pressure. They are also a good source of potassium, folate and fibre. Almonds are also high in unsaturated fat and will help you feel fuller for longer. Bananas, rich in potassium, fiber, riboflavin and niacin, do have high sugar levels but they will give you a rapid energy boost.

If you have no immediate use for the other half of the avocado, brush the exposed surface of the flesh with olive oil or lemon juice and store it in an airtight container in the fridge – it should stay unbrowned for about a day.

Serves 2

– 1 banana, peeled
– ½ avocado, peeled
– 45g almonds
– 2 tsp honey
– 1tsp cinnamon
– 200ml milk of choice – dairy or plant-based

Put everything in the blender and whizz until the desired constituency.
