A look at the famed summer music festival and its iconic Last Night event this September

The BBC Proms is one of the world's longest-running and most distinctive classical music festivals, dating back to 1895. Held principally at the Royal Albert Hall in London, the summer season brings together leading international orchestras, conductors and soloists alongside ambitious new commissions, contemporary music and programmes that cross into jazz, film, popular and world music.

The 2026 season runs from 17 July to 12 September, with 86 Proms across eight weeks, including performances at venues around the UK. The Royal Albert Hall remains at the heart of the festival, culminating in the famous Last Night of the Proms on 12 September.

Highlights still to come include:

Miles Davis Centenary — 20 August

A special programme marking 100 years since the birth of the legendary jazz trumpeter, featuring Ambrose Akinmusire with the BBC Concert Orchestra.

Bond and Beyond — 25 August

The BBC Concert Orchestra performs iconic music from the James Bond films alongside other cinematic favourites.

Enchanted: Alan Menken's Music for Disney — 31 August

A celebration of the EGOT-winning composer's best-known scores, bringing Disney classics to the Royal Albert Hall.

Weyes Blood & Jules Buckley Orchestra — 8 September

An intriguing crossover between contemporary alternative music and orchestral performance.

Last Night of the Proms — 12 September

A major international cultural event, the iconic finale combines orchestral favourites, British tradition and the famously exuberant Proms atmosphere, televised worldwide on the BBC. This year's finale is led by Sakari Oramo with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Chorus and BBC Singers, with Yuja Wang performing Barber's Piano Concerto and Scottish tenor Nicky Spence also appearing.
