The Peninsula London

Word is the Peninsula Group has been searching the capital for a suitably grand location for nigh on 30 years, and this purpose-built dwelling in Belgravia is naturally as splendid as you would expect. Overlooking Wellington Gate at Hyde Park Corner, and a short distance from Knightsbridge and Buckingham Palace, the Peninsular is the destination du jour this autumn. Sumptuous and suitably decadent interiors by Peter Marino set the tone for a truly elevated experience, with Michelin-starred chef Claude Bosi in charge of dining at rooftop restaurant Brooklands, while chef Dicky Ho serves up Asian-inspired dishes at Canton Blue on the ground floor. And did we mention the rooms are some of the largest in the city, with many boasting mahogany wood panelling and sprawling four-poster beds.

Raffles London at The OWO

Over in Whitehall, meanwhile, Raffles Hotel Group has worked its magic on the Old War Office, where the likes of Sir Winston Churchill, David Lloyd George and John Profumo once roamed the corridors. Behind its magnificent Edwardian facade, show-stopping mosaics, oak panelling and chandeliers make for one of the most opulent destinations in the capital. No expense has been spared and New York-based designer Thierry Despont’s interiors are truly a joy to behold. Three of the hotel’s nine restaurants are overseen by Michelin-starred chef Mauro Colagreco while the luxurious spa is over four floors.

1 Hotel Mayfair

Another new entry on the Mayfair hotel scene, 1 Hotel aims to be the capital’s first sustainably-driven luxury hotel, with its bright, elegant interiors created using eco-friendly materials wherever possible. In addition to its commitment to sustainable practices, each hotel room features a living moss wall as well as responsibly-sourced linens and timber - some of it from fallen trees via London’s plentiful parks. The food won’t disappoint, either. Double Michelin-star chef Tom Sellers is already making waves at the hotel’s a la carte restaurant, Dovetail, while drinks can be sipped at the flagship bar Dover Yard overlooking a botanical courtyard.
