Discover Megève: the best attractions in this exclusive French ski resort

The ski resort of Megève has been a haunt of the rich and famous since it was developed in the 1920s by the Rothschild family, who wanted a French alternative to the Swiss glitz of St Moritz. It was the first purpose-built resort in the Alps and is still one of the most stylish and affluent ski locations in the world.

The village itself is in the Haute Savoie region, just over an hour’s drive from Geneva airport, and has chic boutiques, top-class restaurants and hotels in abundance. It’s a picture-postcard setting, with cobbled streets and traditional wooden chalets, all in the considerable shadow of Mont Blanc.

Crucially for visitors, this beautiful alpine area offers activities and things to see all year round, not only in the ski season. Hiking, family events, music festivals, golf and other attractions happen throughout the summer to provide a fun holiday experience in the mountain air.

Here the MCC team has put together a selection of experiences.

The resort has more than 400km of slopes, many lined with wooded areas, perfect for skimming between the trees while taking in the views of Mont Blanc. The slopes have merged with surrounding villages to become a giant ski area, particularly popular with beginners and intermediates because it’s not one of the highest resorts and has plenty of green and wide blue slopes.
